Lapland Bunting (Calcarius lapponicus)

Breeding in the high Arctic, encircling the the world from Norway east to Greenland. European and Asian breeding birds winter mainly in southern European Russia and Ukraine, although data is limited. North American birds winter to the south where as the Greenland breeding population winter both in North American and Europe.

About 200 – 500 birds winter in Britain, although many more in peak years. Birds appear to move in mid winter, and this is illustrated in the Camel area with peak counts occurring in February in both 2011 and 2013.
