Small Calidris wader.

I came across a small calidris wader in a small flock of Dunlin feeding at Dinham Flats. I had a very brief view of the bird but thought that it could have been an unseasonal Little Stint. I met up with Colin Selway shortly afterwards and mentioned to him what I had seen and he said that he had also seen the bird and taken some photographs.

After examining these it was clear that the bird was in fact a small Dunlin. The majority of birds moving through and wintering in Cornwall are of the nominate race alpina, two sub-species/races are smaller these are arctica and schinzii.
