Interesting Tufted Duck

Colin Selway writes;

An adult male, (presence of long crest), Tufted Duck at Amble Marshes this morning, (14-05-13), seemed a bit odd. It was as large as the female Scaup also on site and also showed some odd features, mantle & wings not really black at all, pale wing-tips, odd looking bill pattern, some Rufous vermiculations to under-parts, plus the eye appears too dark for Tufted.

A striking individual, possibly a backcross of a Pochard/Tufted Hybrid? or just an interesting variant.
