Yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella)

The Yellowhammer is a scarce farmland bird found on the areas around the Camel Estuary. Numbers have decreased dramatically in the last 30 years. A large winter roost is located at Rosenannon Downs.

The breeding population in Cornwall is of the sub-species caliginosa, with numbers in the winter probably augmented with birds of the nominate race, from eastern Britain and continental Europe.

Photographs of a probable “Breeding” nominate bird can be found here.
